Prerequisite – Career Exploration is a graduation requirement

This course teaches students how to engage in a comprehensive career planning process. The course focuses primarily on the exploration phase of this process. Students will examine their interests, values, personality traits, skills and experiences. Students will examine information about the world of work including researching occupations, identifying and examining career clusters or job families, occupational trends, education and training requirements and, job search strategies. Students are expected to synthesize what they have learned and develop a plan of action at the end of the course.

We use an Internet based program called Career Cruising that has been designed with one goal in mind: to help our students plan their future. With exceptional assessment tools, detailed occupation profiles, and comprehensive post-secondary education information, students move seamlessly through the career exploration and planning process. At the same time, we have access to the real-time information and statistics we need to track our students' progress and achievement.

COURSE NAME: Intro to Automotive Technology 

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 semesters

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete Career Exploration with a C or better, or with teacher approval.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Students will explore the career requirements and opportunities of the auto collision repair field. Documentation techniques and methods used in the development of a personal auto body repair skills portfolio. Interpersonal skills including customer relations, job interviewing, and impromptu presentations on auto body topics are explored. A personal collection of auto body reference materials and an automotive industry contacts list will be compiled. 

 

Automotive/Collision Repair I

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 semesters

GRADE LEVEL:  11 or 12

TYPE:  Automotive

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete Intro to Automotive Tech with a C or better, or with teacher approval.

 COURSE DESCRIPTION:  With the use of Arizona State and Industry Skills Standards of  I-Car Curriculum this course is geared to provide students with the minimum knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to the use of basic hand tools such as; hammers dollies, body files, grinders, and sanders as well as welding in metal shaping and smoothing.  The student studies the construction of the automobile body and techniques of auto body, repairing, rebuilding and refinishing.  Repairing, straightening, aligning, metal finishing and painting of automobile bodies and frames are typical skills learned. 

 College credit may be granted through Eastern Arizona College inter-governmental agreements with San Carlos High School.

 

 

Automotive/Collision Repair II

COURSE NAME: Auto Body II

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 semesters

GRADE LEVEL: 12

TYPE:  Automotive

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete Auto Body I with a C or better, or with teacher approval.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

With the use of Arizona State and Industry Skills Standards of  I-Car Curriculum this course is geared to prepare students for entry level auto collision repair and to take the A.S.E. certification test.

Provide training in the use of the equipment and materials of the auto body mechanic trade.  The student studies the construction of the automobile body and techniques of auto body repairing, rebuilding and refinishing.  Students taking this course will study the effects of heat, water, and corrosion on plastic and metal designed auto bodies, and receive instruction in the techniques and skills of repairing, coating, finishing, forming, and shaping of these bodies.

 College credit may be granted through Eastern Arizona College inter-governmental agreements with San Carlos High School.

 Program Description

The objective of this program is to assist students in developing the skills, work habits, and attitudes that are necessary for a successful start in the collision repair trade.  This is a three-year program that develops skills for entry level employment in automotive body shops specializing in collision repair and painting.

Students follow the Arizona State and Industry Skills Standards of  I-Car Curriculum which includes both classroom and hands-on proficiencies and assessments that identify with other campus-wide outcomes that are vital to the success of our graduates. The four outcomes are: Critical Thinking, Responsibility, Written Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning.
