Program Description - The Curriculum in Construction Technology is designed to enable the student to understand the major aspects of the Construction Industry. Emphasis is placed not only on the development of necessary skills but also on basic construction technologies and materials. In addition, the program examines the relationships of other trades to the Construction Industry, and the application of the appropriate building codes. These are all accomplished through construction in basic safety, building materials, floor systems and framing are the main occupational areas taught.  Instruction includes the identification and usage of materials, blueprint reading and the use of hand and power tools.

NAME OF COURSE: Intro to Construction Tech

GRADE LEVEL: 9th-12th

LENGTH OF COURSE: One Year

PREREQUISITE: Must complete Career Exploration with a C or better or with teacher approval.

This course is designed to enable students to make meaningful decisions regarding further industrial occupations study.  Course content includes safety, equipment operations, industrial applications, technological impact and occupations in the area of construction technology.  Specific study in the areas of Communication, energy, production and/or transportation will be provided.

GRADE LEVEL:  11, 12

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete Intro to Construction Tech with a C or better, or with teacher approval.

The Construction Industry is a diverse industry with many career facets.  This industry is innovative, technical and exciting.  Students can gain computer, text and hands-on skills that will prepare them for gainful employment directly out of high school.  Construction Tech I course of studies is designed to create an appreciation of the industry and to develop entry-level skills within the construction trade.  Opportunities to develop skills for personal use and to make a successful transition from school to the workplace or post-secondary institutions will be presented to students enrolled in this course.

 
College credit may be granted through Eastern Arizona College inter-governmental agreements with San Carlos High School.

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 semesters

GRADE LEVEL:  12

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete Construction Tech I with a C or better.

 

Upon Successful completion of Construction Tech I, students are eligible to enroll in Construction Tech II. 

 

Use mathematical formulas and calculations as well as utilizing computer software to determine owner costs and equipment requirements.

 

Students develop and construct a project from start to finish.  Students receive further theoretical and practical instruction on cost estimating, health and safety in construction, brick and block masonry, building maintenance, carpentry and electrical wiring. 

 

Introduction to job seeking techniques necessary to gain employment.

LENGTH OF COURSE: 2 semesters

GRADE LEVEL:  12

PREREQUISITE:  Must complete at least one Construction Tech courses with a C or better.

 

With an emphasis on safety, equipment operations, maintenance and career opportunities, students have the opportunity to utilize their industrial training to work on various maintenance projects to gain valuable industrial experience.
